Dr. Yujen Chen Tobita, private piano instructor, holds the Doctor of Philosophy
degree (2004) in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University. She received the
Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from Ball State University.
Born in Taiwan, she was the top graduating musician from Taipei Teachers
University and received the Most Talented Musician Award. Her professional
affiliations include Music Teachers National Association and the Austin Music
Teachers Association.
Dr. Tobita has been a winner of several piano competitions including first
place in the Ball State Music Concerto Competition, Ball State University
Young Artist Award, Taiwan National Piano Competition, and Hsinchu Regional
Piano Competition. Dr. Tobita’s performances include Beethoven’s Piano
Concerto No. 3, numerous recitals, and several collaborative appearances. Dr.
Tobita’s students have been frequent prize winners and award recipients from
the Cypress Creek Music Teachers Association.
Dr. Tobita and Shelly Chen are co-founders of the Austin Asian Adult Choir, a
non-profit organization which provides enhanced music education through
choral singing in the Chinese language to the greater Austin community.
Additionally, she is an active pianist for Austin Chinese Church.
