Okinawa is a prefecture of Japan and part of the Ryukyu Islands located south of
the main islands of Japan.

Austin Okinawa Tomonokai is an organization that was founded in 1991 as part of the
International Tomonokai in order to promote goodwill, friendship, and increase the
understanding of Okinawaï's distinctive traditional arts, such as music and dance,
among its members and the community.

Membership is not limited to those who are originally from Okinawai Friends and
family of people of Okinawan descent (uchinanchu), as well as all people in the
community who have a sincere desire to learn more about the beautiful, rich culture
of Okinawa are also encouraged to join and participate.

Eisa drum dancing is one of the most popular and famous Okinawan folk dances,
performed with enthusiasm.   The dancers beat drums while accompanied by folk
songs, chants, and whistling.

Sanshin is a traditional three-stringed banjo-like musical instrument with a small
body, a thin neck, covered in real snake skin, or man-made snake-skin print.

Performers are:
Yoko, Manami, Kanako, Miyuki, Kazuko, Yoshiko,
Keiko, Hideko, Yoko,  & Kumi
