For Immediate Release New Multicultural Art Group
Austin, TX, March 1, 2007 – The Multicultural Artists Partnership (MAP) is a 501(c)3
nonprofit arts organization registered with the Texas Secretary of State’s office in Austin.
MAP is developing new programs and exhibition opportunities for artists from different
cultural backgrounds and with art from genres including two and three-dimensional art,
performing arts and design. Three local artists of different ethnicities but of similar interests
began this initiative.
• Founder Cecilia Ling grew up in China then moved to the United States to attend
Harvard Business School and the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Ling has experience as
an International business consultant, cross culture instructor/coach and as a photographer
and calligrapher.
• Carmen Canann worked as the Executive Director of the Austin Asian American
Chamber of Commerce for four years and is now the VP of Operations for MAP. Ms.
Canann enjoys painting in her studio in between caring for a new grandson and is on the
Austin Arts Commission for the City.
• LaTreace Giles is a registered nurse with a Korean Martial Arts 3rd Degree Belt who
is also a photographer and the treasurer for MAP.
MAP’s vision is to provide a bridge between the community-at-large and individual artists
and art groups by empowering and educating its members and the public and by providing
services to assist in exposure of art and culture to the public. MAP wants to connect with the
artists from Austin’s broad creative community and beyond. These goals fit in with some of
the goals of the Austin City government.
MAP invites public to its Asian Spring Concert and Art Festival for a cultural art events
weekend on March 30 and 31, 2007. (two days, two locations)
Concert includes unusual traditional Asian instruments. The performers have cultural
backgrounds from China, India, Japan and Korea. For photographs and biographies click

Friday night, March 30: Spring Asian Concert at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa
Drive in Austin, Texas 78731. Concert begins at 7-9 pm. $18 at the door and $15 before

Art will also be on display in the South Corridor Gallery in the church.
Saturday afternoon and evening, March 31: A visual art exhibition sale and a repeat of the
Asian Spring concert will take place at St. Michael’s Episcopal church, 1500 No. Capital of
Texas Hwy, 78746. Exhibition open from 2 – 9 pm and Concert begins at 7-9 pm. $1.00 to
enter the art show and $18 for the Concert.
